Facts about Canarsie
Canarsie is a neighborhood in the eastern part of Brooklyn. It has a population of about 83,000 people in about three square miles.
Canarsie was most famous for being a later 1800s seaside resort. Filled with summer time attractions, it was a popular destination for New Yorkers.
A ferry service connected Canarsie to The Rockaways and smaller islands during this time. The amusement parks and other fun attractions led to Canarsie being a proporous part of Brooklyn.
However, the development of Coney Island and the Marine Parkway bridge led to the downturn of Canarsie’s attractions and less people needing the ferry service.
Although it still operated as a fishing depot and was a popular spot for sport fishing; eventually the many changes in NYC caused this neighborhood to change as well.

To get to Canarsie you can take the L train or one of many bus lines. By car, Canarise is directly accessible via the Belt Parkway as well as Linden Blvd.
