The Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn is found in the central part of the borough. It is located just south of Prospect Park. With a population of about 105,000 people in a one square mile area, it is a densely populated neighborhood.
Historically, it is one of the original six towns of Kings County. It was a merchant and farming hub for most of the 1800s. In 1920, it joined New York City. In the early 1900s, it was a popular neighborhood with Irish, Italian and Jewish immigrants working in the area.
Flatbush was home to the Brooklyn Dodgers; with their historic baseball stadium Ebbets Field located on the border of Flatbush and Crown Heights. However, when the Dodgers decided to move to Los Angeles, it signified the changes Flatbush would undergo.
Many of the European immigrant residents moved out of Flatbush. They were replaced by African Americans and people of Caribbean origins. Today, it is a booming residential and commercial neighborhood and is considered one of New York City’s hottest neighborhoods.

To get to Flatbush, you can take the B, Q, 2 and 5 trains as well as many bus lines. By car, you can take the Prospect Expressway or locally take Flatbush Avenue through the neighborhood.
Flatbush neighbors the Crown Heights, Midwood, Canarsie and Kensington neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
