Sheepshead Bay is a neighborhood in the Southern part of Brooklyn. It’s population is around 65,000 in just over 2 square miles of space.
Originally a fishing and farming community, it had a long history of being a popular summer destination. Along with a racetrack in the early 1900s, it was a neighborhood that was considered part of high society.
However, the combination of criminalizing horse gambling and new amusement parks and subway lines being built in neighboring Coney Island, the popularity of Sheepshead Bay decreased and led to it becoming a primarily residential neighborhood.
