Midwood is a neighborhood in the south-central section of Brooklyn. It is home to about 53,000 people in about one and a quarter square miles.
This neighborhood was named for its mostly rural and wilderness landscape. Not until this area was annexed by the City of Brooklyn in the 1890s did it become developed.
Today, it is known to be a part of the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. Midwood is home to people from all over the world, with a large amount of Soviets moving here in the 1980s. It Is also home to people of Caribbean, South American, European and Asian descent.
