Cobble Hill is a small neighborhood in the northwestern part of Brooklyn. It is only made up of 40 blocks.
This is an historical neighborhood that has changed many times over the centuries. Originally settled by Dutch Farmers in the 1600s, it became a Fort location for many of the early American wars. By the mid 1800s, it became a city and with the creation of the South Ferry it became a highly trafficked area. The former farmland became more suburban and residential throughout the rest of the century.
An influx of European and Middle Eastern immigrants changed the neighborhood some, but it wasn’t until the mid-1900s when Cobble Hill became designated a National and New York City Historic District.
Cobble Hill is filled with many buildings and churches built in the mid 1800s; specifically the Christ Church and Holy Family on Clinton Street that was built in 1840-41.
Cobble Hill is accessible by F and G trains as well as a few bus lines. The NYC Ferry service also services Pier 6 which is partly in the neighborhood. And of course, driving will be super easy as it is directly accessed via the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
A plan to connect Astoria to Cobble Hill with a light rail system has been approved, despite being delayed until a 2029 completion.
Cobble Hill neighbors the Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
