Facts about Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn Heights is a neighborhood in the western part of the borough of Brooklyn. It has a population of about 20,000 people in a small area of just over a quarter of a mile.

Brooklyn Heights is directly across the East River from Manhattan. The ease of ferry and train transport between Brooklyn Heights and Manhattan has made this neighborhood a popular and affluent section of Brooklyn.

Originally named Brooklyn Village, many of the streets in this neighborhood are named after people who influenced it’s development. This is no short list of names; President John Adams and President James Monroe are two worth mentioning.

The amount of history that took place in this neighborhood is almost too much to fit in a short summary. I encourage you to read about the history on your own as you’ll be amazed at how this neighborhood has been preserved.

Brooklyn Heights is accessible via the A, C, F, N, R, W, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains. This is one of the few neighborhoods that doesn’t have direct bus service. But, neighboring Downtown Brooklyn and Cobble Hill have nearby bus access.

Of course, the most interesting way would be to take the NYC Ferry South Brooklyn route at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It is also directly accessible via the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

Brooklyn Heights neighbors the DUMBO, Fort Greene and Cobble Hill neighborhoods of Brooklyn. It is also directly across the East River from the Financial District of Manhattan.
