Boerum Hill is a small, yet high end neighborhood in the northwestern part of Brooklyn. Originally named for the Boerum family, which occupied most of this section during the Dutch’s settling period in the 1600s.
Through the 1800s, the neighborhood became filled with three story row houses. This led to Boerum Hill becoming a working class hub, with many of these homes acting as boarding houses for factory workers.
