Facts about Bath Beach
Bath Beach is a Brooklyn neighborhood in the southwestern part of the borough. Its population is just under 30,000 people in about 1 square mile.
Bath Beach is a diverse neighborhood of working-class New Yorkers. It has been home to the Italian American community for many years. Today, it is home to many Chinese, Middle Eastern and Russian immigrants.
This neighborhood gets its name from originally being a beach resort locale. However, it no longer has a beach due to the construction and creation of the Belt Parkway.
Another interesting fact about Bath Beach is that it was one of Brooklyn’s earliest African American settlements. Many freed slaves were given parcels of land in this neighborhood in the mid-nineteenth century.
Bath Beach neighbors Bensonhurst, New Utrecht, Dyker Beach Park and Gravesend neighborhoods of Brooklyn. All of these neighborhoods played a role in many movies and TV shows, such as Saturday Night Fever and Welcome Back, Kotter.
Bath Beach is accessible by the D Subway Line as well as several Bus Routes. Also, this neighborhood can be accessed directly via the Belt Parkway.
