Facts about Flatlands
Flatlands is a neighborhood in the southeastern part of Brooklyn. It has a population of around 65,000 in just over two square miles.
Flatlands was founded as a farming community by the Dutch in the early 1600s. They grew all sorts of vegetables as well as tobacco. Also, oysters and clams were harvested off of Jamaica Bay.
This neighborhood is home to multiple historic homes dated as far back at 1720. Today, it is home to a strong African American community.
There are no Subway Lines that run into Flatlands; however, the 2 and 5 Trains are fairly close by at Flatbush Ave and Nostrand Ave. There are many bus lines that service Flatlands. And of course, you can access by car directly from the Belt Parkway
Flatlands neighbors the Bergen Beach and Midwood neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
