Facts about Carroll Gardens

Carroll Gardens is a neighborhood in the northwestern part of Brooklyn. It has a population of about 13,000 people in about a quarter of a square mile.

This neighborhood is named after Charles Carroll, the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence. Combine this with the large gardens in the Historic District, and you get Carroll Gardens.

In later years, Carroll Gardens has gone through many transformations. In the 19^th Century, it was an Irish and Norwegian neighborhood. Later on, Italian immigrants began moving to this neighborhood, which was close to work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

More recently, it has become a hub for French immigrants; although there is still a strong Italian community here.

Some amazing points of interest to check out in this neighborhood are the John Rankin House built in 1840 and the St. Stephen’s Church built in 1860. Both amazing pieces of historic architecture.

Carroll Gardens is accessible by the F and G subway lines as well as a couple of bus lines. Naturally, you can drive to Carroll Gardens as it is directly accessible from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
